Introduction

Nurses train in different specialisms and sometimes do further training within these specialisms. I am a clinical nurse specialist specialising in child and adolescent mental health. I am registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and I trained at Kingston University and St Georges teaching hospital.

I am also a trained Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and carried out my training at Kings College London and the Anna Freud Centre. I currently work as a senior lecturer and teaching fellow at my local university and teaching hospital where I teach about mental health including child and adolescent mental health/neuro-developmental conditions and cognitive behavioural therapy skills.

Experience

I've had an interest in and worked in mental health for many years and have worked in various voluntary and special educational roles before I qualified professionally. I have worked as a clinical nurse specialist and CBT therapist in an NHS CAMHS service for 12 years and a further 6 years in private practice, supporting children and young people with a range of difficulties such as anxiety and depression and have adapted therapies for children on the Autistic Spectrum as well as carrying out diagnostic assessments for children and young people with Autism and ADHD. I also work as a freelance consultant for the National Autistic Society as part of their diagnostic team. I was a professional adviser to the Young Minds (mental health charity) parent line. I am  also a trained behavioural therapist for those who want to manage Tics and Tourettes Syndrome offering the CBITS approach which includes both Habit Reversal Therapy (HRT) and Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) and I am a registered behavioural therapist with Tourettes Action. I have contributed towards publications in Nursing and Teacher education that promote social Inclusion and anti-bias education and remain part of a special interest group for social justice and inclusion for those with disabilities.
